Taking the HighWay

Although most of us are ready to forget last year as soon as our clocks change. I think it’s important to say goodbye to the last 365 (or 66) days that we were subjected to.  To help me with my annual shake down, I asked a few of my friends if they would tell a story for CAMOUFLAGE about their 2024. The only parameter was that there were none… So I hope you enjoy seeing, reading about, and listening to, some of my super talented friend’s favorite things from last year :)

Where to begin, before I do, hit play.

Ever since middle school. Probably sixth grade exactly - I’ve been in love with music. The way you can picture an exact memory; the walk to home room, the school dance, all from hearing a single note or beat from a song.

I used to play the violin. I knew at that point in time, that wasn’t the coolest was it? Beginning high school, I dropped the violin and joined the choir… better? Truth is it didn’t matter. Keeping myself closer to music was what had to be done. So why should you care about any of this? Because when I recommend a song or artist, its a fucking banger thats why.

This is about taking the highway, being a little more different then the next person. Expanding who you thought you could be. The first Artist is Rex Lauren.

Honestly, I just found rex about a month ago but I listen to her music everyday. Sometimes you know when someone just has it and in this case I’m betting on it. Her mix between R&B and Alternative music is so refreshing to my ears.

Listening to Rex, you get a feeling of emotion that can range in every song. Maybe it’s “Backroom”, giving into the aggression and lucidness of this world. Or “I feel like Grace”, reminding you to be light and go where life wants to take you. Either way, she has an energy to her that cant be diminished.

The second artist in this rotation is none other than Saheem himself, SahBabii.

Unless you’ve been under a rock - you’ve no doubt you’ve heard Viking and have been leaning against the wall, pointing your fingers in the air aimlessly.

Sah Dropped Saaheem five days before Christmas and in my opinion he was able to produce the best album of the year. Personally don’t know where the hell Sah has been, but boy was I glad to have him back. Single handedly saving the world like a goddamn “Viking”.

Whether you feel like tweaking out - or sitting back and cooling on “1095 Osborne St”, there is no doubt that Sah has not only produced a great album. But he’s possibly put himself in the conversation of top 20 artist of all time with this project. Hate me if you’d like.

Who else could the last artist be, Highway.

If anyone has been searching for that 2014 sound cloud feeling again. Turn on “And Go”, light one, then let it sink in.

Highways melodic twist on what feels like overpopulated emo culture is something extremely familiar but so new. There aren’t many artists that can get on a song and immediately take over whatever was there, turning turn it into their own.

Whether it’s time for you to get in your bag and “SDSU” or get under your sheets to “Wait Up”, Highway truthfully is taking a different lane with things. He takes inspiration from all over the music industry. I can almost guarantee his name will rise to the top pretty soon just like the underground god Lucki did.

So that about sums it up, take the highway. Or take the backroads lol
